Our ecoETHICS
We are not only finding better ways to make shoes, but we are changing the way we run our nice little shoe company.
- March 2007 - The City of Santa Barbara honored Deckers Outdoor Corp. (our parent company) as Recycler of the Year!
- March 2007 - We are so happy to give to our local green community of Santa Barbara, CA by supporting www.GreenSantaBarbara.com - a list of activities, business, and history about SB's green culture.
- February 2007- Rachel is STILL asking for her dang bike!
- February 2007 - We are happy to team up with our friends from Oniric Records on the Solutions for Dreamers Festival (www.SolutionsforDreamersFestival.com) to benefit Heal the Ocean, a Santa Barbara environmental advocacy group that protects our coasts!
- February 2007- We hosted the first ecoETHICS panel at the WSA Show (the largest footwear trade show), which gathered leaders in the industry to talk about why this is such an important issue. The house was packed!
- February 2007 - the Simple Green Library is open at Simple HQ for all of our employees to use! We have DVDs, Books, and games (oh my!)
- February 2007 - We figured out how to make footbeds out of recycled plastic bottles! (a.k.a PET)
- February 2007 - Several Simple products now have recycled car tires for outsoles baby!
- January 2007 - All of our shoes are stuffed with post consumer pulp made from recycled newspaper. No need to use virgin materials!
- January 2007 - Our flip-flops (or slippa's for our friends on the islands) are now shipped in cornstarch biodegradable bags!
- October 2006 - Rachel wants a bike.
- October 2006 - All of our company events are waste free by using biodegradable plates and utensils.
- September 2006 - The carpool board is up, and we are bringing fewer cars (and using less gas which is mega-expensive in SB)!
- September 2006 - The City of Santa Barbara has helped us become more responsible by giving us a program allowing us to recycle almost everything! SB has a very aggressive program to reduce the waste all around our nice little town! We can recycle most kinds of plastics, paper, cardboard, aluminum and more! You can learn about this at www.sbrecycles.org/. They say that 80% of office waste is recyclable, so this will be a tremendous reduction in our ecological footprint.
- August 2006 - Instead of virgin wood floors, Deckers installed Bamboo floors' natural, easily replinishable, and fancy!
- July 2006 - Erin, our awesome intern from the Bren School joined the team to help us find ways for us to be a little wiser on the sustainable level!
- July 2006- The big wigs at Deckers Outdoor Corp. agreed to be a Partner to the Bren School of Environmental Studies at UC Santa Barbara. They are one of the leading post-graduate environmental education and research facilities in the world! They have a sweet building that is one of the first in California to be certified as "green." It's made from things like recycled bottles for counters, newspapers for the ceilings, solar power, and more windows so that less electric lights are needed. http://www.bren.ucsb.edu/
- July 2006 - In an effort to be a little better, ALL of our Simple Shoes are stuck together with water-based adhesives! We also GREATLY reduced the packaging in our shoe boxes and are using boxes made from post consumer paper.
- June 2006 - Simple HQ started using biodegradable cleaning products, post-consumer recycled paper towels and toilet paper, and automatic paper towel dispensers to stop people from snagging a huge bunch of towels!
- January 2006 - Green Toe expands for Spring with the flip-flops (the Toe Jam)
- July 2005 - Green Toe Launched with the Loaf and Shuf, introducing the world to naturally made shoes.
- A LOT MORE to come ... really soon!
